Slip and Fall Injuries

Slip and Fall Injuries

Consider Chiropractic for Slip and Fall Recovery

When you think about the many reasons that people head to the emergency room, simply falling down probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. However, slip and fall accidents are extremely common, with millions of annual emergency room visits occurring as a result of such events. If you or a loved one has been hurt in a slip and fall accident, you may want to consider chiropractic care as part of your overall rehabilitation.

People of all ages are at risk for slip and fall injuries, as anyone can trip over something they don’t see, or step on a wet spot and fall down. With that said, it is more common to see these types of injuries in older people. Unfortunately, some elderly people have difficulty with strength and balance, making it more likely that they will fall at some point. Providing the injured person with prompt medical care is important after any fall.

A number of different injuries may be experienced as the result of a fall. The list below highlights just a few of the common issues that arise after a fall has been experienced.

  • Lower back pain
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Headaches
  • Fractures
  • Arm and/or leg injuries

Of course, the specific injuries suffered as the result of a slip and fall accident are going to depend on the circumstances of the fall, the physical condition of the individual, and more. Proper medical treatment should be sought immediately after the incident to make sure the injured person is stable.

A Traumatic Event

Slip and fall injuries can often linger for long periods of time due to the traumatic impact that takes place when you hit the ground. That contact with the ground, or some other surface, can jar your joints, bones, ligaments, muscles, and more. Much like a football player can be injured by running into another player, a pedestrian can be injured by falling and crashing into the ground. The potential severity of slip and fall injuries should not be overlooked, as they have the potential to affect your health for many years to come.

As it relates to chiropractic care, a slip and fall injury could lead to misalignment or subluxation. If you have suffered an injury chiropractic can help you with, our offices would be proud to serve you. Advanced Chiropractic Rehab Center offers two locations – one in Culver City and one in Van Nuys – and we offer treatment for those who are rehabilitating from a slip and fall incident. Working Through a Diagnosis

Before chiropractic treatment can begin, it will be necessary to evaluate your condition and the extent of your injuries. Your chiropractor will likely use technology such as an MRI or CT scan, in conjunction with your own input on the pain you are experiencing, to put together an evaluation. From there, a treatment plan can be created for the rehab process. Depending on the extent of your injuries, this plan could be relatively short, or it could be quite lengthy.

It is likely that there will be adjustments recommended as part of your treatment plan. Also, massage therapy is a possibility to provide a different kind of care to your body. To gain a better understanding of your treatment options, and to understand what you should expect, please feel free to ask questions during your visit. Our goal is to help you recover as much of your previous health as possible, as you are going to play an important role in that pursuit.

Some Common Goals

The specific goal for your rehabilitation is going to depend on the injury you have suffered, your age, and other factors. For some people, rehabbing from a slip and fall injury is going to mean getting back all previous levels of strength and flexibility. In the case of a serious injury, chiropractic care may be aimed simply at providing the patient with basic mobility for day to day tasks. This is particularly important for older people who are more likely to experience another fall if the injuries from the first fall have made them weaker or less stable on their feet. Maintaining as much strength and range of motion as possible is important when trying to avoid future slip and fall injuries.

If you have experienced an injury chiropractic treatment may be able to help, we hope you will consider Advanced Chiropractic Rehab Center in Van Nuys and Culver City.
